Convert ETAs to RSAs

Modified on Mon, 6 Jan at 7:32 AM

Responsive search ads (RSAs) became the default ad type in Google Ads in June 2022. Adalysis offers easy and intuitive tools that allow you to create RSAs in bulk using the assets from your legacy expanded text ads (ETAs).

Create an RSA from an individual ETA

In the Ads menu, find the ETA you want to work with and click the menu in the top-right corner.

This command opens a draft RSA with headlines and descriptions populated from your ETA. You can pin assets, and edit or add new headlines and descriptions before you save your new RSA. Click any folder icon to see assets used in this ad group or your entire account, for quick ad copy ideas.

Create an RSA for selected ETAs

In the Ads screen, select the ETAs from which you want to create RSAs (you can also filter the ads by ad type, campaign, ad group, and other criteria). Go to Tools > Create RSAs from ETAs.

You can now choose between two options:

  1. Copy pinning from the ETAs
  2. Don't use pinning

If you select both of these options, two RSAs will be created for each ETA. They'll have identical assets, one fully pinned and one unpinned. Assign labels to each ad, so you can later compare their performance and test whether full pinning works for you.

Create RSAs with assets from multiple ETAs

This section is about creating RSAs with the assets from several ETAs in the same ad group. On the Ad groups screen, and select the ad groups you want to work with. Then, go to Tools > Create RSA ads from ETA ads

  1. Decide whether to skip ad groups with at least one existing RSA and paused ad groups.
  2. Inherit/copy assets from ETAs based on your preferred criteria.
  3. Choose how many headlines and descriptions you want to inherit, and add new text.
  4. Choose to pin all assets or skip pinning. You can also use both options at the same time. (Two ads will be created.)
  5. Preview your ads.
  6. Click Create RSAs in selected ad groups to publish your ads.

Please note: Google limits active RSAS to three per ad group. Go to Ad groups > Filters > Ad groups with too many ads to find ad groups with more than four active RSAs, or change the filter criteria as needed.
